From fleeing a civil war and leaving his family behind to rebuilding a better future.

Where the Story Began

Omar just wanted to work hard and provide for his family.

But in Syria in 2011, even that became impossible. Civil war tore through his region. For four years, violence was outside his door — persistent, relentless, wearing down everything he had tried to build.

Then government soldiers arrived demanding Omar fight for them. He fled, leaving behind his wife, his children, and everything he had ever known.

What Made His Situation Complex

Omar was alone, undocumented, and moving through unknown territory with no guarantee of what waited on the other side.

The deeper struggle was relational. His family was still in Syria. The trauma of four years of violence traveled with him. He needed safety, legal help, and someone willing to see him not like a statistic but as a man with a name and a story worth knowing.

How Hope Tribe Came Alongside

During his journey to Germany, Omar encountered a church community that offered help and kindled something the violence had nearly extinguished: true hope.

He eventually arrived in Germany and was connected to our Hope Tribe team. We met with him immediately. We listened. We didn’t start with a checklist. We started with his story.

People back in the United States heard what Omar was carrying and responded by praying, giving, and encouraging. Hope Tribe helped with his medical and dental needs, funded legal support, and managed the process of bringing his wife and children to Germany to seek asylum together.

What Changed

Today Omar works full-time in the medical field. His sons are becoming fluent in three languages. His family is putting down roots in their new home.

In the evenings, Omar sits on his couch and plays with his kids. He laughs. He hugs his wife. When someone knocks on the door, he no longer braces for soldiers.

The knock on the door is just a knock on the door.
